Tidal River Glide Bait Tackle With Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones proper tackle to throw a glidebait on the Chickahominy River

After I accosted him at the Richmond Fishing Expo and then interviewed him about his swimbait history and tactics, Daniel Jones was kind enough to take me out on the Chickahominy River to give me an in-person lesson. We launched in the Upper River on a blustery early March day and put in our time to catch a couple of fish – including his 6.84 freak that looked like it had swallowed a coconut. Indeed, she had been eating heavily before it grabbed his 8-inch glide, as there was a big shad tail sticking out of her throat. Eventually I made him get down to business and spill the goods. I saw it firsthand, so I know he’s telling the truth.
