Rick Pierce on Ribs, Recesses and the Redheaded Stranger

Bass Cat's Rick Pierce weighing in a largemouth bass

Those of us who run Bass Cats proudly refer to ourselves as part of the BCB Family and the patriarch is Rick Pierce, son of company founder Ron Pierce. His following is obsessively loyal and the boats are an extension of Pierce’s vision and personality – a little quirky, but always highly functional and ahead of their time.

I’ve had six of them since 1999, starting with a used Pantera III, then progressing through a new Pantera IV, Puma FTD, two Eyras and a Puma STS. I haven’t yet decided what my next one will be. In the meantime, I cornered Rick at the 2025 Bassmaster Classic to get some answers about boat engineering, the city of Mountain Home, and some of his personal interests.
