April Fishing Travel Links to Get You Going (Somewhere)
Despite T.S. Eliot’s warnings, I’ve never found April to be particularly cruel – the winter is in the rear view mirror, the bass are biting just about everywhere and summer is within range. Accordingly, you may be too busy to follow relevant travel news. Never fear – we take care of that for you. Below are some links that might impact or interest you:
I tried the TSA PreCheck Touchless ID program at O'Hare — and it's a game changer — Anything that makes the security process faster, potentially more secure, and touchless could be a huge win, especially if it impacts a broad segment of travelers.
TSA unveils new self-service checkpoint prototype in Las Vegas — Vegas and Chicago might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they should provide a pretty good glimpse into how to make this program work.
6 hacks to get more room on a flight — The “empty seat” jackpot also known as “poor man’s first class.” I love anyone who applies strategy to even the most mundane tasks.
Amex Platinum to lose SiriusXM as digital entertainment credit partner — This one could be bad news for us. We’ve found the Amex Platinum to be worthwhile, but that’s at least partially because we’ve used the monthly SiriusXM credit – now we’ll have to reevaluate.
These are the global airports passengers love the most — I’ve only been to three of the nine, but Salalah in Oman holds particular interest – it’s apparently the gateway to some incredible remote popping and jigging grounds.
Tribunal orders Flair Airlines to pay up for spoiled crab meat, fish cakes caused by baggage delay — I don’t know if this will help us if our tuna spoils on the way back from Panama, or if our salmon spoils coming home from Alaska, but it’s a good one to keep in our back pocket.
Rotten Fish And Maggots Were Found In A Passenger’s Luggage After Bugs Started Falling On Other Peoples' Heads, And I Will Not Be Flying Ever Again — I’ve flown a lot, have never seen, smelled or felt rotten fish coming from the overhead compartments, but these last couple of items have me worried.
Panama: Tocumen Airport records record passenger traffic in 2023 — We’ve found Tocumen to be a very efficient and hospitable airport (although the upstairs food court tends to get a little warm). They seem to be building to keep up with their increased use.
New Developments Coming to Mazatlán in 2024 — We tend to focus on the fishing so we never really stay in city or the beaches, but that may change in a couple of years thanks to all of these new developments. My additional hope is that they’ll lead to more and more convenient flights to one of our favorite destinations.
Guatemala eyeing improvements at La Aurora international airport — We’ve always found La Aurora International Airport to be welcoming and efficient, especially the customs and check-in portions, but I certainly wouldn’t look askance at any improvements – because we intend to go back many, many times.
