Direct Flights to Panama’s Tocumen Airport for Your Fishing Vacation

Panama City Tocumen International Airport PTY

One of the complications of exotic fishing travel is both the cost and difficulty of getting to your destination country. With limited connections and increasingly unreliable airlines, it’s possible to get stuck in Dallas or Miami or some other distant airport – or even at home – with no way to get closer. One of the nice things about our trips to Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge is that there are loads of direct flights to Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport (PTY) from the United States (plus Toronto) every day. One of the things that immediately made it attractive to us is that we can hop on our choice of Copa flights from Washington Dulles and be there five hours later.

The wealth of options means that not only are you less likely to miss all or a portion of the trip, but also that the fare will be relatively inexpensive. We’ve paid in the $500 range round trip both times we’ve gone, with one bag included per person.

If you are in or near any of the following cities you too can fly directly to PTY. If not, it will typically just take one connection through a major hub.

Once we’re in Panama City, the SFPIL staff gets us through an expedited customs queue and directly to the downtown Hilton. Then the next morning they put us on an in-country flight to David (included in your package), at which point we board a boat for the one hour ride to Isla Parida. It’s all remarkably easy, which means we can focus on fishing.

Even if you can’t fly directly from your home region to PTY, it’s nice that all three major US carriers (plus Spirit) have direct flights, so no matter which alliance program you’re in there may be a good option for your next trip.

Copa Airlines has multiple direct flights to the United States every day from PTY
