Fishing Travel News for Late January 2022
New Year = More unpredictability in fishing travel.
Inflation is high, but people are still raking in dough and spending it freely.
Air traffic surged over the holidays, but so did flight cancellations.
We thought COVID was going to affect travel less. Then came Omicron.
In short, if you’re looking for seamless, easy and change-free opportunities, you’re likely going to end up suffering a heart attack. This industry is constantly changing. Fortunately, there are a lot of great sites around the web that document and opine about travel trends. Few of them are fishing-specific, but many of their articles talk about issues that affect globetrotting anglers. Here are some recent ones that we believe are worth sharing:
Top 5 Airlines And Airports Stories To Watch In Latin America In 2022

Out Of Chapter 11: Avianca Prepares For A Strong Start To The New Year
More competition in South America hopefully means more cost-effective options for those of us who want to visit any of that continent’s angling playgrounds.
Avianca announces 2 new routes between U.S. and Colombia
Colombia has hit our radar in recent years because it offers fishing trophy-class peacock bass (as well as ancillary species like payara) as well as incredible fishing for many of the same inshore and offshore species we’ve tackled in Panama. Now you can fly directly from NYC to either Cartagena (on the Caribbean side) or Medellin (for access to Pacific side).
Virgin Australia And United Airlines File For Codeshare Approvals
Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea are all on our bucket lists (Hanna has already been to Australia, but not to fish), although we’ll probably have to wait until after we retire to make the trek/s. I’d certainly want to find a way to fly business class to get there, and using my United miles might prove to be a way to do so.
Famous Galapagos Islands Arch Formation Collapses Into Ocean
This is not fishing travel news per se, but rather a reminder that everything in our world is temporary and potentially fleeting. If there’s a place you desperately want to visit or fish, make every effort to get there sooner rather than later.
Top 12 Countries To Retire Abroad 2022
We’re not quite ready to retire, and we’re pretty sure that when we do so it will be with a combination of an RV and a house in the US, but this list gave us something to think about. Not surprisingly, many of the “top countries” have great fishing, including Panama, the Number One seed.
