More Capacity on Houston-Panama United Flights

The flight options for anglers headed to Sport Fishing Panama Island Lodge continue to increase. Copa added direct flights from Austin and Baltimore earlier this year, and while United hasn’t added new routes to Panama’s Tocumen Airport, they’ve increased their capacity. Earlier this year they raised the number of Newark-Tocumen flights from seven to nine weekly, adding direct options for New York area travelers and easier connections for many northeasterners, especially with a United hub.

Now they’re increasing the daily number of flights from their Houston hub to and from Tocumen. They’ll go from two to three flights daily in each direction during the prime tuna popping season of April through August. This will give Texan travelers more options, and both locals and connecting travelers a better chance of getting there in case something goes wrong.

SimpleFlying.com points out that the current prices on the IAH-PTY routes are quite expensive, even costlier than connecting through Houston, but it’s our hope that in the long term this will provide downward pressure on pricing across the board.

If you’re leaving Isla Parida in the morning, all of this means that there’s a direct flight to Houston at 3:30pm, which provides enough time to get from David to PTY, recheck your luggage, and get home in a single hop. The only post-lunchtime direct flight to Newark is at 10:55pm, so if you want to wait around we can arrange for a driver to take you to see some sights and grab a meal.
