Panama Travel News Late 2024 – Tocumen, Copa and More
As we get ready to embark on our fifth trip to Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge in January, Hanna and I continue to be thrilled at the ease of travel to the world’s best yellowfin tuna fishing grounds. We started going a year into COVID, and things were in flux at that time, but the improvements seems to happen at a rapid pace. Here are some news updates on Tocumen Airport, Panama’s flagship carrier Copa, and the experience in general:
Tocumen International Airport Is Planning A 300 Room Hotel -- We’ve always gone downtown and stayed at the Hilton before returning to Tocumen to fly to David the next morning. It’s nice to see the city, especially for first-timers, but if this comes to fruition it could be a great no-hassle option, particularly for late-arriving travelers.
18 Best Ways to Earn Copa Airlines ConnectMiles — We’ve become huge fans of Copa, both internationally and for the flights within Panama, and since we’ll likely use them more in the future we’ve become curious about their loyalty program and best ways to accumulate miles.
21 Best Ways to Redeem Copa Airlines ConnectMiles for Maximum Value — Once we get enough miles to make them meaningful, we’ll need to figure out how best to use them, both for travel to Panama, within Panama, and elsewhere.
I Spent A 13-Hour Layover In Panama — Here's What I Learned — We’ve spent up to 6 hours in Tocumen on a return trip, and while this traveler didn’t have a great time (13 hours anywhere would be rough), we’ve been impressed with the amenities, lounge options and increasing eating establishments and premium shopping.
Copa Airlines Announces New Travel Process for Domestic Flights at Tocumen’s T2 — Anything that improves the process for flying between Tocumen and David makes our trips even more seamless. It has changed several times since our first trip, and while it’s never been burdensome, easier is always better.
Copa Airlines Celebrates 20 Years Of Connecting New York City And Panama Via JFK Terminal 4 — The long relationship between the most important city for commerce in the US and the modern amenities of Panama City again speaks to the stability of this process and the ever-increasing number of travel options available versus just a few decades ago.
Panama: Tocumen Airport Terminal 1 turns 46 years old — So much has gone on globally and politically during Terminal 1’s lifetime, but what we like about Panama today is not just the fishing, but the quality of the travel experience, the safety, and the beauty of the country.
