Short Range “Bucket List” Fishing Trips

Two big bass from Lake Anna Virginia

While Hanna and I have embarked on this project to make fishing travel our raison d’etre, we recognize that not everyone can or will travel long distances to chase fish. Perhaps it’s your budget, or family obligations or work, or maybe you just don’t want to get on a plane. That’s ok, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t derive great satisfaction with a rod and reel.

Indeed, even though we’ve had opportunities to travel to some exotic spots to drown worms, we still enjoy lots of time on the water near home. That’s partially by design, partially because we cannot be away full-time….yet. Even if you don’t live next to a world-class fishery I bet there’s some good fishing within a short drive of your home. Some of my most memorable days have been on a local lake that many people call “The Dead Sea.” Check out this recent video I shot there:

Part of making the most of your remaining days on the water is fishing when and where you can. Even the subpar days will teach you something about the sport or something about yourself.

If you want to plan a trip to Mexico or Brazil or Guatemala or Panama or Alaska, we’re happy to offer advice, but even if you’ll never visit any of those places you can still achieve your angling dreams.
