Late Summer Travel and Fishing News That’ll Beat the Heat
Melting yet? While I love the outdoors, I still believe that air conditioning may be the greatest invention in the history of mankind (Saran Wrap and ketchup be damned). We’ve traveled and fished quite a bit this summer, but we’ve also stayed on top of the news. The following is a select group of fishing and travel links that you might find helpful or amusing:
Aeromexico and Delta connect Mexico City with Raleigh-Durham, Tampa Bay and Washington D.C. — Anything that provides more options for getting to Mexican fishing destinations is a good move in our direction – and while the Dulles additions aren’t ideal in terms of schedule for us (we can get there in one day, but not back in one day), we’ll keep them in mind for future trips to Mazatlan and elsewhere.
More than 3 million pass through US airport security in a day for the first time as travel surges — While air travel is far from perfect, it’s remarkably popular and it seems that the post-pandemic surge shows no signs of abating. Book your trips early and assess air traffic trends for your area.
Why are sea lampreys in the Potomac River, and are they harmful? — Just as we got used to the darn snakeheads, here’s another invasive to shake things up. I haven’t had one inhale my frog or Chatterbait yet, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.
Omaha man says TSA damaged his fishing rods, denied his claim — I can truly feel Mr. Flair’s pain, as I’ve been there before, but I’m guessing he’ll have little recourse or get little satisfaction.
Clear Just Added These 6 Airports to TSA PreCheck Enrollment Program — What to Know — We rely heavily on Clear and TSA PreCheck and they continue to pay off. Now they’ve added several airports we use regularly to the list, making it even more critical to our efficiency in airports.
So You Wanna Run Down the Man? — We love roosterfish and we love Mexico, and while we haven’t been to Cabo yet (that’s coming next fall) I could envision an experience where we’ll spend extended periods of time down that way in retirement. I’m going to print this extensive guide from Gink and Gasoline out just for that possibility.
The Vanishing Islands That Failed to Vanish — The rare piece of arguably good news on the climate front. We always figured we’d have to rush our trips to places like the Maldives before we were truly financially ready. Now perhaps we have a little bit more time to plan.
Alaska Airlines ramps up capacity to meet strong summer travel demand — Travel to Alaska remains popular for good reasons – we won’t be back for a little while, but if you’re considering a trip for next summer you’ll be glad to know that options and capacity for air travel are increasing.
The Guatemalan Chefs Revitalizing Indigenous Mayan Ingredients — We loved our time in Antigua prior to last year’s trip to Casa Vieja Lodge and wish we had known about these restaurants then. Here’s hoping we’ll get some similar opportunities when we visit Lake Atitlan after we go to CVL in November.
Expats Rank The Best Places To Live In The World — Two of our favorite places – Panama and Mexico – are number one and number two, respectively. We haven’t been to Indonesia (#3) yet, but our friend Steve Yatomi keeps posting amazing fishing visits. I highly doubt we’ll end up living there, but we’d like to see it firsthand.
We (probably) aren’t traveling to fish again until we hit Louisiana and Missouri in November – but if we get an unscratchable itch we’ll report back on that, too.
