Be the Bait Ball

Carl and Lisa Vicars of TN with yellowfin tuna caught in Panama

As we’ve gotten more involved with offshore fishing, especially in places like Guatemala and Panama, we’ve learned of the power of bait balls. Species including sailfish and yellowfin tuna herd up various forage species and then strategically feast upon them until they’re full.

Sometimes you’ll see birds diving on them, other times the sonar lights up with little bright blips. Other times you just happen upon them. No matter how you search for them or find them, tights schools of baitfish are often the name of the game – and plenty of clothing manufacturers give you a way to wear that obsession. Here are a handful of our favorites.
