Boardshorts for Tuna Fishing Freaks
While they’re not necessarily big in our home waters of the bass fishing world, as we’ve delved more and more into saltwater fishing we’ve seen an increasing number of anglers on the boat in boardshorts. The billfish “critter shorts” that you wear to dinner may be stylish, but you don’t want to get them covered in the blood of a gaffed yellowfin.
You can rock some plain ones, but if you want to show your allegiance to our new favorite type of fish, there are plenty of tuna-themed options on offer:
Hook and Tackle offers these tasteful versions in two colors. They feature several offshore species, but the tuna are most prominent.
The aptly-named Tunaskin apparel company offers these even subtler options, with just a hint of tuna tail to give away their obsession.
A few years ago Hanna bought me a pair of orange boardshorts from Tormenter, and they quickly became my go-to option. Because I know they fit well, I may have to add these ones with a yellowfin running up the side.
Pelagic used to make these yellowfin-colored shorts, complete with scales, but they don’t seem to be in their current lineup (although you may be able to find them from other retailers).
PecheXtreme in France has a very realistic pair with a bluefin preparing to feed just below your balls.
Oceanic Gear has a scaled set (currently on sale) with a tuna silhouette on the thigh.
Scales Gear, manufacturer of one of my most coveted-sets of critter shorts, also makes “Sushi” boardshorts for those of you who enjoy eating your catch as much as seeing them blow up on a topwater.
