Gear for Grayling Groupies

Alaskan Arctic Grayling underappreciated

Is the Arctic Grayling the Rodney Dangerfield of Alaskan sportfish? They’re beautiful, they fight hard, they’re prolific and it seems they get absolutely no respect.

Perhaps it’s because they don’t grow particularly large, or because there are so many other options that divide the glory, but as far as I can tell few people travel to the Last Frontier specifically to target these “sailfish of the north.” There is a dedicated Grayling Society in the UK, but at least in the US they don’t have a lobby comparable to the Billfish Foundation, Trout Unlimited or Bonefish & Tarpon Trust.

That’s also reflected in the amount of swag with grayling represented prominently. A quick Google search will find you all manner of hats, shirts and jewelry with bass, sailfish, mahi and trout, among others, on them – but the grayling gear is limited – and of the few pieces I could find some are already out of stock or discontinued. If, however, you’d like to set yourself apart from the average angler, here are some ways to do it:

Any of these will nicely complement the real thing in one of your pics from a Bear Trail Lodge flyout!
