How to Dress for Your Next Fishing Trip to Amity Island

Jaws movie poster

Jaws remains a powerful influence nearly a half-century after its release. Sharks continue to trigger our fear response centers and even people who were born decades later are “afraid to go back in the water” as the indirect result of a single movie.

It’s also iconic in popular culture, and that extends down to apparel. There are plenty of t-shirts commemorating the movie poster, but also some more distinctive items. I was reminded of this recently when I got a mailer from the RSVLTS, a super-clever clothing company, with all sorts of fun and innovative licensing plays. I have one of their shirts memorializing the 1993 film The Sandlot, depicting both “The Beast” and Wendy Pefforcorn. Recently they came out with an entire Jaws lineup, including some fun short sleeve button down shirts.

There are also shorts. Check ‘em out:

They reminded me that I’d seen complementary footwear from boat shoe veteran Sperry, both floating loafers and canvas models:

Through a company called Heddels, you can get your own version of Quint’s Hat.

Shoe Palace has a variety of items, including shorts that bring the teeth a little too close to your tender bits.

There are plenty of sharks in Hawaii, so don’t sleep on an Aloha style shirt.

Scales Gear, maker of luxurious polos (I have one with billfish and one with tuna) has one named “Jaws.”

You can take a deep dive into this world and find all sorts of stuff. Just don’t bite off more than you can chew.

Here’s to swimmin’ with bow-legged women.
