Best Lures for April on the Chickahominy River

Best lures for April Bass Chickahominy River Virginia

Whenever I’m anywhere near the Chickahominy or James Rivers – and especially if I’m down there to fish – I always make an effort to stop at Fishing Pro Tech in Toano. Owner Lin Bell has seemingly been a Megabass dealer since the Eisenhower Administration and stays on top of all of the JDM trends, but also knows the latest info on his home rivers.

After a few dark years in the early 2000s, the “Chick” has made a huge comeback and is consistently producing big bags and monster bass. April is one of the best time to chase the giants, and while there will of course be some local tournaments, this is the first year in a while with no FLW or Bassmaster Open to add extra pressure. Get out there now if you want your best shot. Employee Hunter Smith is an ardent tournament competitor and local expert, and judging by his early success in the BFLs has a solid career ahead of him. Lin was kind enough to “loan” us Hunter for an interview and what he throws in April.
