Small, Strong and Unbreakable
I’ve previously written about how much I like the Pelican Black 1510 case with TrekPak dividers and mesh lid organizer. It holds all my electronics, cameras, video equipment, cords, etc., and fits in the overhead compartment as my carry-on luggage.
When flying on little planes (two seats on one side and one on the other) and the overhead compartment isn’t large enough, they typically force me to put my camera case with the rest of the tossed any-which-way luggage, but each time I open the case I am pleasantly surprised. No breakage, no scratching, all intact.
On our recent trip to Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge, Captain Juan Diego and I were walking to the boats and he opened this mini-Pelican case and grabbed his phone from the foam slot, made perfectly for his size phone. He took his morning video, put the phone back in the foam slot and snapped the case back together before getting on the boat and throwing the case on the console.
I’ve known Pete to lose three phones in the drink and I have dropped mine more times that I can count. I thought to myself, “This is GENIUS!”
Guess what came in the mail this weekend? That’s right, two Pelican Go G40 cases.
There are several colors, but many are out of stock, as these are very popular. I bought blue for Pete and pink for me, so we know which is which.
I measured both of our phones in advance but upon delivery the G40 didn’t quite fit Pete’s phone. Mine fits perfectly. Under the phone tray, in the slots on the back, you can fit credit cards, cash and business cards. It also has room for cables, lip balm, keys and even a passport. It has rubberized protective bumpers in case of drops, a single hinge latch, and an abrasion- and impact-proof ABS outer shell. The built-in pressure valve keeps water and dust out while balancing air pressure. It’s basically crushproof, dustproof and everyday stuff proof (per Pelican) and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
The real reason I purchased mine was FOMO. If Pete had one, I would of course want one. After his first one didn’t work out, we found another case, the R40 Personal Utility Ruck Case, in orange (I’m a little jealous because that’s my favorite color).
Pelican calls this case crush proof, dust proof and adventure proof. Just like the G40, it has protective bumpers, MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment) style loop system with Velcro straps and a rigid divider tray. This case has dual pivot hinge latches and also has a built-in pressure valve. His case can fit an external battery charger to charge his phone when needed, extra cables, money clip, keys, tools and there looked to be room for a special bait or two.
Thanks to Amazon’s great return policy we were able to return Pete’s blue G40 Personal Utility Go Case and the replacement Ruck R40 Orange case showed up the next day. I’m pretty sure he was excited to see the R40 case because when I interrupted him from watching TV, he didn’t roll his eyes, LOL.
I think these Pelican Personal Utility Cases are going to be a great way to help organize our personal belongings, keep them safe and for the quality the price cannot be beat. If you ruin your phone in the jungle, or on a remote island, you can’t just run to the store and get another. This way we’ll never miss a chance to catch that trophy fish picture or stay in touch (when we choose to do so).
