Coral Trout on the Menu
As we’ve gone deeper down the popping and jigging rabbit hole, it’s become clear that we need to venture to the western Pacific asap. Not only are places like Australia, New Caledonia and Fiji hotbeds for those techniques, but they also have some incredible species that can’t be found anywhere. The one that stands out to me time and time again as I hyperscroll through social media is the ultra-colorful Coral Trout.
We probably won’t get a chance to venture there to chase them for a few more years, but when we do travel down there we’ll be sure to have some color patterns that replicate the local forage, including those colorful (mostly) red and blue reef runners. Here are some options:
