My Favorite Brovarney Baits Swim Jig Colors
I’m deeply indebted to my friend TJ Maglio for teaching me about swim jigs, and also for introducing me to Dan Brovarney’s products. I have extreme confidence in the Brovarney Baits jigs and despite the fact that I’m constantly accruing more and more varied tackle, I always come back to the jig. In fact, each year I seem to fish them more. Everything about them ,from the hook to the weedguard to the skirts, is well thought-out and I’ve never had a failure from Mexico to Maine. He also introduced us to our close friends Samantha Sukupcak and Mike Yee, and I’m grateful for that, but friends can be temporary, while swim jigs are forever (just kidding).
While I’ve tried at least a dozen of Brovarney’s colors, after interviewing more than my share of bass pros about swim jigs, I’ve learned that most keep it simple: something black or black and blue; something shad-colored or white; and something that represents a perch or bluegill. Accordingly, after much experimentation, the following are my go-to colors:
I could probably get by with those three, but I’m a bait whore, so that’s not really psychologically feasible. There are several others that remain in the mix, but don’t get used quite as religiously. They include the following:
You may develop your own favorites, and it’s worth trying some of the full array, but these have consistently worked for me. Order them all directly from Brovarney. They’re still priced remarkably competitively and built to last. I get no kickback but I like helping out the good guys who make great products.
