Investing in a Shimano Stella for Hard-Pulling Saltwater Fish

If you’d asked me a decade ago to assess the top price I’d spend on a spinning reel, I likely would’ve said $100-150. Maybe if I was feeling a little bit flush I would’ve pushed the ceiling to $200.

Well, those days are over.

Yes, I’d previously exceeded that number, but I just blew through it by several multiples -- that’s because I purchased a Shimano Stella 14000XCG. It’s Shimano’s top saltwater spinning reel, and some would argue the best one available from any brand. I’ve used smaller versions before, and after this last trip to Panama I decided to pull the trigger.
