Keith Combs: Four New Must-Have Squarebill Colors
Every serious bass angler has squarebills in staple colors like Sexy Shad, Chartreuse Black Back and some sort of realistic shad pattern. That may have been enough in days gone by, said three-time TTBC winner Keith Combs, but with increased fishing pressure now it’s also critical to have a broader array.
For that reason, the noted cranker is glad that Strike King came out with the new Elite patterns, not just in his favorite deep divers, but also in cover-breaking squarebills.
“With those better, more realistic paint jobs, I have more confidence throwing them in clearer water,” he said. “Some of those new craw and bluegill patterns just seem like they should convince the fish they taste better.”
In his workhorse KVD 1.5, he’s quickly grown reliant on the following four new options:
Chartreuse Sexy Shad 2.0
Chartreuse Baitfish
Sunny
The Real Gill
Elite Squarebill Notes
Combs said that when he’s fishing a squarebill he uses the 1.5 about 60% of the time, the 2.5 around 25% of the time, and the 4.0 the remainder.
