New Travel Rods and Travel Rod Accessories – Early 2023
We continue to seek out new and more efficient ways to travel long distances with fishing rods. Sometimes that means an enhanced selection of multi-piece sticks from varied manufacturers. Other times it means new ways to pack and transport the gear so it makes it to your destination in one piece – well, you know what I mean.
My feed continues to come up with new products that excite me. Recently they included two additions to Tackle Warehouse’s lineup:
Here are four more that have piqued my interest in recent weeks:
Studio Composite Transworld Rods
I learned about these when swimbaiter Daniel Jones directed me to the JDM Fishing website, from whom he gets his “Fiend” hats. They listed three of these five-piece baitcasting rods – a 6’3” rated for up to 8 ounce lures, a 6’5” rated for up to 2 ounce lures, and a 6’6” rated for up to 4 ounce lures. Not everybody’s cup of tea, but they could be perfect for peacock bass, payara and other jungle species, as well as a host of saltwater beasts. They’re definitely not inexpensive, but if they get there and back in your carry-on, they could be more than worth the cost.
Leviathan Rods – Case
Eric Gomez has built limited quantities of his three-piece 8’ heavy-action rod known as “The Daily,” but until recently he was dissatisfied with the transport options available to get it from Point A to Point B – so he went out and sourced what he was looking for himself. His new case is produced by a company that specializes in tactical firearms cases and they’re made entirely in the USA. No word on whether they’ll be available solo, but one will come with all future orders of “The Daily.”
L.L. Bean Truck Seat Fishing Organizer
If you’re like me and you always want to have at least a small assortment of fishing gear in your vehicle, but it tends to get spread out or misplaced, this may be a solution. It straps onto your front seat and keeps a varied selection of gear at the ready. It’s made for fly fishing and may not easily hold your possum-belly tacklebox, but this is a viable solution whether you drive a one-ton or a Yugo.
DEPS Huge Custom Genoma
DEPS is updating their “Huge Custom” Series of Travel Rods to include four new baitcasting models. Three of them are three pieces each, and the fourth — the XX-Heavy 7-footer rated up to 5 ounce lures — is four pieces. These may be difficult to source in the US, and may only be produced in limited quantities, but everything in the DEPS lineup is premium, and with the USD strong against the Yen it could be a good time to buy.
Here are a few other gizmos and gadgets that have popped up recently that will help keep your gear unbroken and transportable:
