Randy Blaukat’s Megabass Vision 110 Starter Set

Randy Blaukat's favorite Megabass Vision 110 color patterns

Missouri pro Randy Blaukat may have more history with the legendary Megabass Vision 110 jerkbait than any other angler on the planet. He’s been affiliated with the company for over 30 years, helped to trigger the lure’s development, and was using it successfully on tour before most of us knew anything about it.

I previously outlined some of my favorite color patterns, and I own quite a few, but Randy can likely own any that he wants – including some not generally available on the US market – so I asked him which colors he’d suggest to an angler just starting out. Here are three that could serve you well from coast-to-coast:

Pro Blue was likely the first one to gain a cult following in the US. I recall anglers desperate to pay $100 or more to get their hands on one. Indeed, it was the first color that I bought (at a far lower price).

“It’s just like a green pumpkin plastic worm,” Blaukat said. "It works everywhere.”

There’s a reasoning behind Blaukat’s triumvirate, though. The Pro Blue is translucent, the Gill (one of several Gill patterns he employs) is metallic, and the Ito Natural has a flat finish.

“Once you have one from each of those three categories, you can effectively fish just about any water clarity and light condition where you’d fish a jerkbait.”
