What’s Your Favorite Firetiger?
A recent video from BPT pro Matt Stefan about neglected lure colors reminded me that firetiger (or, if you like, the two word “Fire Tiger”) used to be a staple and now it’s an afterthought. Indeed, as I’ve written before, when I first started fishing the Potomac River, just about every boater had a Firetiger Bomber 6A or 7A tied on. I don’t recall the last time I’ve seen one in use, and while I’m sure that I own some, they haven’t been wet in years (or possibly decades).
Nevertheless, they never lost their attractiveness to bass in appropriate conditions, so I went back to Tackle Warehouse to see which hard bait manufacturers are still making this storied color. The following dozen do not constitute an exhaustive list, but they prove that there’s certainly no industry standard when it comes to this pattern.
This doesn’t even begin to touch the soft baits and wire baits that purport to be in this famous color pattern – nor does it address various other names and variations which include: Aaron Tiger, Hot Tiger, Brown Tiger, Red Tiger, Tiger Roan, Lacy Tiger and Ghost Red Tiger.
