Dogtooth Tuna – Another Aspirational Conquest

Now that I’ve got the tuna itch, I cannot seem to shake it. I want to get as much of that yellowfin topwater action as I can, and I assume that a bluefin trip – likely to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but possibly to Prince Edward Island – isn’t that far off. During my research of South Pacific locations, I’ve also learned about the dogtooth tuna, a species that pound-for-pound sounds like it could knock the crap out of the other two. 

As our friend and colleague Dan Smith wrote, they “are one of the toughest adversaries on rod and reel.” He explained that not only do they have razor sharp teeth, but muscles to back them up, adding that “their initial run generally can’t be stopped and if they head to nearby rocks you are probably toast.” That just further whets my appetite for a trip across the globe.
