Fishing Jewelry: I Am a Material Girl

largemouth bass earrings purchased at Lake Conroe Texas from an independent jeweler

Ever since my first cast I have used high quality fishing equipment and clothing (Except for my lifejacket. I really need to find one that I like). I didn’t have to try out the $89 Walmart combo and gradually work up to the best of the best, as my partner equipped me like a queen -- only the best for his material girl.

I am not a lure or tackle junkie. One per household is plenty. What I do like is jewelry and that extends to pieces that reflect what I love to do – FISH. I like to have things that others don’t and many of my pieces are one of a kind.

This combination of my interests has made Pete’s life much easier when it comes to purchasing gifts. Now that we have moved into saltwater fishing there is an entire ocean of fish to choose from. As long as we can catch them, then I am willing to wear them someplace on my body (no tattoos or belly rings – yet?!?!).

Here is a little background on a few of my pieces and you can see many of them in the YouTube video I made for you with a little help from Madonna.

Where do I start?

Tahitian pearl jewelry purchased on honeymoon

Honeymoon, Tahiti, land of the Tahitian pearls. In an off-the-beaten-path excursion we visited a small jewelry store where I found a Tahitian pearl attached to a fish pendant. It was very tasteful, not fancy, so I could wear it as an everyday piece, unlike the fabulous pearl earrings we had to buy before leaving the island.

largemouth bass sterling silver pendant

Toyota Texas Bass Classic, Lake Conroe. I worked the PAA booth with John Crews and all day long I watched people oohed and aahed over the jewelry items right across the aisle from our booth. Pete came over to see how the two of us were doing and John told him to take me over to the jewelry booth or I might bust. Thanks to John, I ended up with a sterling silver bass ring and bass pendant. It makes me sad that I didn’t think to keep the jeweler’s card (why didn’t I think that blogging would be a thing and that I would have liked to share his/my treasures?).

Fish skeleton earrings purchased in Florida

Florida, Los Olas Boulevard. We were out with friends and just window shopping after dinner. There was a store full of handmade jewelry so of course we needed to just look. We walked into the store and there was a huge wall of earrings. There literally could have been a thousand pair of earrings, and my eyes went right to a certain pair. They looked like a fish, glass head and silver pieces put together that represent the body and a split section to signify the tail.

fish bracelet made from a bent spoon

I have friends who love antiques, very much like my parents did, and when they find something out of the ordinary that reminds them of someone, they purchase it as a gift. Luckily, a few times over I have been the recipient. Several pieces of my favorite artwork in our home are due to their travels and a few pieces in my jewelry box as well. A silver spoon made into a bracelet, that looks like a fish. Genius, but don’t go taking a spoon out of the silverware drawer to try this, I am sure there will be a few other choice words besides “genius” coming out of your mouth.

Rooster tail inline spinner earrings

My family thinks I’m a little nuts but a few of them follow our writing and traveling, including my cousins. Well, to be honest, one is jealous of our plan to RV to here there and everywhere and the other one thinks we are crazy. She does like jewelry, her pieces are exquisite, and when she found earrings that looked like lures, she grabbed them and held them until my birthday came around. The fact that they are Rooster Tail lure earrings just showed how much they really, really know me.

Anisa Stewart jewelry colorful mahi mahi cuff

Long before we saltwater fished, Pete found this amazing jewelry designer, Anisa Stewart. She has pieces for everyone’s pocketbook. I love all my pieces but the Bronze Mahi Mahi cuff is my favorite glam piece I own. There isn’t a time I wear it that I am not stopped or approached and complimented. I have my eye on the 4 bronze hook silver chain necklace, hint hint.

Sailfish necklace and hat

For Pete’s 50th his parents took us to Casa Vieja Lodge. Pete was so sweet and purchased both me and his mom a different saltwater necklace, She got a Mahi Mahi and he bought me a Sailfish. I’m not sure if he thought it would bring us good luck but it seemed to do the trick, we caught a lot of each. I now wear the necklace each time we return to the lodge.

Sight Line Provisions discontinued roosterfish cuff

Before our last Panama trip, conveniently scheduled around my birthday, Pete got me a last of its kind, roosterfish leather bracelet from Sight Line Provisions. It is gender neutral and it’s an everyday wear. Edgar Diaz made his first bracelet, a trout badge, and then realized others had sight lines of their own in nature and made several other collections that represent the outdoors.
