Food Links Near and Far, Fatty and Freaky

Lobster dinner at Lake Winnipesaukee New Hampshire

Good food is not only necessary to sustain life, but also to make it worth living. That’s true when we go on fishing trips near and far – we want to be at peak performance, but we’re also pretty excited to dive into some premium grub. Below are some links that might get your tastebuds flowing. Alternatively, they might trigger your gag reflex.

  • Where to Get Even Better Choco Tacos Around the CountryI’m not sure why Klondike discontinued their widely-available and ultra-popular original, but rest assured that you won’t have to hoard your existing supply through the apocalypse. I’m also intrigued to find out that there are various food festivals called “Smorgasburg.”

  • Texas Monthly BBQ Home PageHanna and I once went to Central Texas on a barbecue pilgrimage which included three hefty lunches in one day. Totally worth the cost of the Lipitor. Texas Monthly, one of the best general interests, has an entire section dedicated to ‘cue. Bookmark it.

  • 25 Outstanding Restaurants Worth the DriveGarden and Gun is another fantastic magazine that includes elements of the sporting life, entries related to cooking/food/restaurants and all sorts of other fascinating content. As we prepare to enter the RV life in the next few years, we fully intend to drive places specifically to eat.

  • Passenger fined $1,874 after two undeclared McMuffins found in luggageIs a McMuffin worth a trip to the pokey? Two of them? I’d go to jail (note: likely not a foreign jail or a max security prison) for certain foods, but a routine $5 breakfast sandwich is not one of them.

  • City’s top 5 hot dogs – according to ChicagoansI’m married to a redheaded Chicagoan, so I know they take these things seriously and will cut you if you don’t agree. Notably, the hot dog stand where Hanna and I shared our first kiss is not mentioned, not sure if that means the marriage is doomed after 17 years.

  • Porcupine Meat: Novelty Meal, Ultimate Survival Food“[T]he porcupines’ fatty meat makes them a godsend when living or surviving in the wild, and pretty darn tasty on any other day as well.

Can you eat porcupine?
