The Salty Boys of Summer

Baseball is the all-American pastime, but some of us would rather be on the water than on the field or in the stands. Fortunately, you can combine the two sports as perfectly as chocolate and peanut butter. While MLB has fish-themed teams like the Marlins and the Rays, you’ve gotta hit the minors to find some more creative saltwater-oriented teams. Here are a few of my favorites:

Tampa Tarpons

Pensacola Blue Wahoos

Jupiter Hammerheads

Charlotte County Redfish (RIP)

Bridgeport Bluefish (RIP)

Clearwater Threshers

Fort Myers Groupers (one day change from the Fort Myers Miracle)

Gwinnett Stripers (probably freshwater, but we’ll let ‘em slide)

We’ll deal with freshwater fish, college teams (like the Palm Beach Atlantic Saifish) and the Japanese League (Hiroshima Carp, anyone?) at some other time.
