Abundant and Specialized Travel Rod Options – April 2022
Just when I think I’ve found every multi-piece rod on the market today I inevitably seem to come across more options. Despite the fact that three-, four-, and even five-piece rods aren’t the preferred tools for the majority of anglers, I continue to be amazed by how many are out there. The manufacturers fill multiple niches with their rods aimed at traveling fishermen. Here are some more that I’ve found lately:
At the Bassmaster Classic in Greenville, SC, Shimano introduced 2- and 4-piece rods in their Convergence D lineup – a range of actions and purposes at the bargain price point of $69.99 to $79.99.
While recently interviewing Bassmaster Elite Series pro Chad Pipkens, I was introduced to the Swate rods he uses on tour. In addition to the regular selection of swimbait and cranking rods, the company also offers a mid-priced three-piece 7’ Hobo Series Casting Rod.
The deliciously-named GT Ice Cream offers several very reasonably-priced Assassin Spin Zero three-piece surf rods for beach-bound travelers.
New Zealand’s Catch Pro Extreme Topwater Series five-piece rods are made to tackle the strongest flats fish using lures up to 150g.
Jansen Tackle in Mexico offers a four-piece 11’ graphite surf rod, perfect for chasing roosters in the Baja surf.
J&H Tackle offers up Dark Matter rods aimed squarely at travelers chasing bonefish, including a combo with a Van Staal spinning reel.
More travel rod news coming soon — with all kinds of options whether you’re headed across the globe or taking the subway.
