Bass Lures that Look Like Kokanees

While the bass world is heavily focused on the south and southeast, there’s a ton of good fishing in the Northwestern United States. Part of that is because their trout-centric culture leaves many of their waterways relatively pressured. Another factor – in some places – is the presence of Kokanee salmon.

They’re native to many lakes in Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho, and have contributed to the quality bass fishing on waters including Coeur d’Alene, Dworshak, Bullard’s Bar and Berryessa.

Some luremakers have taken note of the connection and have developed patterns specifically to mimic this food source. While the different manufacturers’ patterns vary, most of them have some sort of blue on the back and silver on the sides. That means that even if you live far from the nearest Kokanee, this pattern could still be a killer. Here are a few big baits worth checking out:
