Deps Cover Scat Alternative Colors

Our interview with Matt Paino about the Deps Cover Scat has consistently been one of the most-read articles on our website. The lure has taken off in the US, as evidenced by the number of other manufacturers who have come out with their own versions or brought over what were previously Japan-only soft plastics.

We’ve messed around with them a fair amount, and we’re still trying to figure out exactly when to grab a “scat” versus a Senko or other similar lure. Most of our efforts have involved basic colors including black (with and without flake), various shades of green pumpkin and watermelon. I also just bought some junebug, which should be great on our tidal waters. If you’re looking to differentiate yourself from the crowd, consider checking out one of the following lesser-known options, several of which are only available at Tackle Warehouse:

  • TW Black Blue-Green Pumpkin Laminate

  • TW Green Pumpkin-Plum Blue Flk

I’m also intrigued by the following “oddballs”:

  • Golden Shiner

  • Reservoir Shad

We have definitely learned that this lure is a killer on bed fish. If you’re sight fishing for bass, consider:

  • Pearl White Silver Flake

  • Chartreuse
