Five Products that Keep Going In and Out of My Cart at Tackle Warehouse

While I spend plenty of money at Tackle Warehouse, you may be surprised to know that I put plenty of thought – bordering on agonizing obsession – into my orders. At heart, I’m half spendthrift, half cheapskate, and those two personalities are constantly at war with one another. Here are five items that have made it into my cart multiple times but which have yet to make it to the “submit order” portion of the process.

Evergreen Combat Rat topwater lure chartreuse/white

I’ve made no secret of the fact that the big rat is my favorite bite, but it’s a very limited one and I already have similar options like the SPRO, PB Rat and LFOD. It’s not like you lose a lot of them. Then again, every Evergreen product I’ve used has been exceptional. When I do eventually purchase one, it may be in a non-traditional color.

River2Sea Pro Tuned rover topwater walk-the-dog lure

On a trip to El Salto a few years back, our friends Kelby Waldrip and Jeb Bond whacked ‘em on this walk-the-dog topwater. It was clearly outproducing similar lures with more and bigger fish. It’s just hard for me to buy more lures of this style when I have so many. As it turned out, I had a great couple of days with a Vixen.

Jackall Pompadour Crawler Lure bluegill color

After Hanna’s exceptional morning with a Megabass I Wing 135, I desperately want to invest in some smaller crawlers, but I’m not sure which one or ones to buy. This one seems to get a lot of positive reviews at a “midrange” (but not inexpensive) price point for this genre.

Accent Subtle Series Colorado Turtle spinnerbait blue glimmer

I’ve relied on the turtleback War Eagle Finesse Spinnerbait for decades, and I’ve amassed a solid supply of them (thus my hesitancy to supplement the stash) but they’re getting harder to find in certain colors, and this one looks like it might eventually be a solid replacement.

Z-Man Chatterbait Elite EVO Bama Gill pattern

I don’t lose or wear out a lot of vibrating jigs, and I have plenty in reserve, but by most accounts this lure is as good as the Jackhammer, at about half the price. I may have to stock up in some key colors.

It’s really a silly exercise. I’m sure that at some point all of them (and perhaps multiples of them) will end up in my personal tackle selection, but if I just buy every shiny object that appeals to me I’ll be living in a refrigerator box – albeit one that’s loaded with premium gear.
