Gan Craft’s Peacock Bass Swimbait
Peacock bass are beautiful in and out of the water, but that doesn’t mean they’re not fodder for other species in the wild. Whether you’re chasing payara, arapaima or peacocks themselves, you might want to utilize a lure that’s a close facsimile, and as I’ve detailed before there are plenty of them out there. Of course, not all of them can stand up to the sometimes toothy thrashing of Amazonian beasts.
Fortunately, there’s a new addition to the mix. I know that the arapaima chasers in particular have had success with larger swimbaits and glide baits like the Deps Slide Swimmer 250, but one of the most popular swimbait brands among serious big bait freaks is Gan Craft. Their Jointed Claw series is uber-popular, not inexpensive, but not as high as some of the garage baits, and generally available. Their multi-jointed Shift 183 (2.5 ounces) may not be quite as popular, but it has the advantage of maintaining its proper motion at high speeds.
Now Japan Import Tackle is importing them in a lifelike peacock pattern. Even if you never make it to South America, this one is a beaut. Get ‘em from Japan Import Tackle or any of their partner retailers while you can.
