My Favorite Fishing Leggings
I love wearing leggings as often as I can. I wear them to work out, around the house, to the grocery store and even to fish.
They are comfortable, they can be dressed up, and they come in a nearly infinte array of colors, shapes and designs. Chosen carefully, they will flatter many body styles.
If you want your leggings to illustrate and complement your fishing lifestyle, there are lots of different ones to choose from. One of my favorite pairs of leggings are the ones Pete gifted me from Pelagic Gear. They look like Mahi Mahi and make me think about our trips to Casa Vieja Lodge. Catch, photograph, filet and eat – we liked the experience so much that we rebooked before we left our first visit.
Waterlust offers sailfish and sockeye salmon patterns. A nice feature of their leggings is you can customize them for your height. Once cut, the raw hem won’t fray no matter how much you move and groove in them. I also like their side pockets which good for your phone, money, lip balm or even a snack. If I had to choose one, I think I would purchase the sockeye design as I love red and they bring back memories of our 2020 trip to Bear Trail Lodge in Alaska.
FisheWear leggings are designed for the fly fishing lady but can be worn by all, and not just to fish. They are all quick-drying and shield you from the sun with UPF50 protection. Their designs are the most eye catching, in my opinion, and although the Grayling and Rainbow Trout leggings remind me again of our Alaska travels, I think the reason I still don’t own a pair is because I can’t choose one as my favorite.
Redfish leggings are very popular and my favorites sites include Spooled Fishing Apparel which just sounds like a place I’d want to go shopping. When I eyed the redfish pattern it took me back to Venice, Louisiana. I loved using popping corks to catch redfish and the fish are distinctively recognizable by the their color and the spot on the tail (which actually fools predators).
Bliss Splash also makes a great redfish pattern.
I caught my lone brown trout in Milwaukee, behind the Summerfest stage, through the two feet of ice and it was an absolute monster. Trail of Highways offers pretty designs:
So does Cognito Brands but unfortunately I won’t be flaunting either of the trout patterns on the ice as they will be under my Gill rain suit and bibs that I also use as my warm winter suit. Ice fishing was fun but I think I will stick to being hot and sweaty from here on forward.
There are so many pairs of fishy leggings I want to purchase but I’ve vowed that I won’t do so until I catch the particular species. I intend to catch them all and can’t wait to hang up my work pants for my leggings full time in just a few years.
