The Angler Formerly Known as Prince

Musician Prince holding up two largemouth bass

We learned from Chappelle’s Show that Prince was all about some post-game pancakes, but no word on whether he liked to flip and pitch, or what he thought about forward-facing sonar. Still, the late musician’s influence is so great that his most famous album name permeates the fishing industry.

Here are five baits that will allow you to show off Purple Rain from the top to the bottom of the water column:

And two more that feature the alternative spelling of Purple Reign:

And in case you don’t remember, part of the movie “Purple Rain” was filmed around one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes, although not Minnetonka.

Notes

  • Elite Series champion Cliff Prince was not consulted for this article.

  • My best FLW Tour finish as a co-angler came at Lake Minnetonka in 1997, when I finished 13th.

  • Other Prince-adjacent lure colors you might like include Purple Nurple from Bill Lewis and Grape Ape from Bruiser Baits – although the wealth of lure patterns that constitute variations on Purple Haze are better reserved for Jimi Hendrix.
