Two Great Danes, a Chihuahua and a Salty Dawg

Walk-the-Dog topwaters are time-tested, fun to fish, and allow you to call a variety of species from long distances. That’s why I’ve settled on a few bass fishing favorites over the years, including the Megabass Giant Dog-X, the Super Spook and a few others. When it comes to peacock bass I’ve explored some other, more durable options, and I’ve coveted some of the bigger models – for bass, peacocks and possibly tuna.

The manufacturers don’t seem to want to let up on the intros, though. Here are four relatively new lures from this category that caught my attention:

6th Sense Magnum Catwalk Herring three hook topwater

6th Sense Magnum Catwalk

Length: 6.5”

Weight: 1.2 oz.

Color I Want to Try: Live Herring Shad

Why it Intrigues Me: Another really big topwater that should tempt the biggest bass in the lake (plus stripers and toothy critters) without necessarily ruling out tournament-sized keepers. I always like a three-hook design for fish that slash at the bait but don’t get it.

SPRO Walking Haint topwater lure Baby Striper

SPRO Walking Haint

Length: 5”

Weight: ¾ oz.

Color I Want to Try: Baby Striper

Why it Intrigues Me: SPRO’s hard baits tend to be exceptional, and they come with quality Gamakatsu hooks, plus the 125mm size fits a niche right between “standard” and “oversized.”

Megabass Dog X Jr. Coayu BFS

Megabass Dog X Jr. Coayu BFS

Length: 2.75”

Weight: 1/5 oz.

Color I Want to Try: White Python

Why it Intrigues Me: I’ve gotten some bait finesse tackle, but I really haven’t explored what it can do for me, particularly on tough days. This feels like an aggressive technique that won’t deter finicky biters, and the other Dog X sizes are among my staples.

SPRO Sea Falcon 140 Topwater Walking Bait JDM

Sea Falcon 140 Topwater Walking Bait

Length: 5 ½”

Weight: 1 1/3 oz.

Color I Want to Try: TBD

Why it Intrigues Me: I first became aware of Sea Falcon through my expanding interest in offshore fishing – this JDM company makes some of the best tuna poppers and slow pitch jigs in the world, so I was thrilled to see that they’ve partnered with SPRO and entered the Tackle Warehouse universe. Hopefully this is a sign of more premier products to come.

If you’ve tried any of these, or have some new topwaters we haven’t explored, let us know your thoughts.
