Three New Scat-Like Substances at Tackle Warehouse
Ever since the Deps Cover Scat became a curiosity and in some cases a valued tool for US anglers, numerous domestic and JDM manufacturers have introduced their own takes on the genre to the American audience. This year we saw several more at ICAST plus new colors and they continue to squirt out intermittently. Here are a few that have attracted my attention in recent months:
I am a huge fan of OSP’s products, including some of their harder-to-find frogs and spinnerbaits. They claim this 2” stubby soft plastic walks the dog, but it looks remarkably scat-like to me. It comes in many basic colors, but I also like the Ghost Shrimp and Green Pumpkin/Pink offerings.
Technically this is a tube, but the compact divided tail makes it similar to a scat in overall shape and purpose. It’s made of buoyant plastic, so it may not fall like other scat products, but that’s good – it’ll complement them rather than competing for playing time. They have basics like green pumpkin but also some other colors like PB&J and Alabama Craw that may be harder to find among the other lures in its class.
This is not a true “poop” bait, but it combines some of that group’s best characteristics into a soft plastic for wacky rigging. It also has tentacles, so for those of you who are curious about the OSP Dice but can’t buy into that concept or price point, this may be an initial way to satisfy your curiosity. It comes in five sizes from 1.4” to 4”.
