Texan Travis Burns Does it All on the Water and in the Woods

A couple of years ago I met Travis Burns in the customs area at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport as his crew returned from Lake Picachos and we were returning from Lake El Salto. We compared notes, and it turned out that knew a lot of the same people because he’s deeply involved in the outdoors industry – not just fishing like us, but hunting, too.

We stayed in touch through social media and when I saw that he and his partner Kenny Witek won the Brandon Belt Fishing Team Series Championship on Choke Canyon Reservoir I decided to hunt him down and get his story on Half Past First Cast.

In addition to running Rockin’ B Outdoors Guide Service (both fishing and hunting) with son Jarred, he also has a landscaping business. He was kind enough to sit down and talk for a half hour about the road to the championship and how they clinched the win. Additionally, he opened up about why he guides, guiding with his son, and some of his favorite clients.

If you are ever in the Choke Canyon area please contact him -- you will have a blast and learn a lot.
