Getting to Grosse Savanne is EASY
We’re thrilled to be hosting a trip at Grosse Savanne because we’ve loved every aspect of our trips there and it gives our friends and clients access to new experiences. The key notable difference between GS and our other hosted trip locations is that it’s within the lower 48. That means that from most places in the United States you can get there quickly and easily, without a passport, which is especially important if you’re pressed for time or prefer to drive.
When you start to think about how YOU will get to Grosse Savanne for your fishing trip, hunting trip, or eco-tour, recognize that it’s in Louisiana, but New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport are not the closest big cities. Grosse Savanne is just south of Lake Charles, which is almost exactly two hours east of Houston.
Using Lake Charles as your destination point, here are some driving distances:
Houston (IAH): 171 miles
Shreveport: 187 miles
New Orleans: 205 miles
Jackson, MS: 299 miles
San Antonio: 339 miles
Dallas: 342 miles
Little Rock: 367 miles
Tulsa: 504 miles
Memphis: 508 miles
Birmingham: 524 miles
Nashville: 713 miles
Kansas City: 736 miles
Highway I-10, one of the coast-to-coast interstates, goes directly through Lake Charles.
Going west on I-10, you first hit Beaumont, then Houston, then San Antonio.
Going east on I-10, you hit Lafayette, then Baton Rough, then New Orleans and Mobile.
If you drive far enough in either direction, you’ll hit Los Angeles or Jacksonville, which makes for a long drive with no turns. Then again, if you’re taking a cross-country drive with a southerly route, it makes for a perfect stopping point.
Both times we’ve visited GS we’ve flown into and out of Houston (IAH). For most people we think that’s the best option. Just about any mid-sized or larger city in the country has direct flights to get there, often several times a day.
You could also fly into New Orleans, which is a slightly longer drive to Lake Charles – just about 3 hours.
There is a regional airport in Lake Charles (LCH). It is served by American Airlines (American Eagle) and United Airlines (United Express), with direct flights to Dallas (DFW) and Houston (IAH), respectively. We’ve always figured that by the time we deplaned in one of those cities, waited for our next flight, and then flew to Lake Charles, it was just easier and quicker to fly in and out of Houston. It also gives us a chance to stop at Buc-ee’s. Your decisionmaking process may vary.
The advantage of flying to Lake Charles is that we can arrange a ride to/from the airport so you won’t have to rent a car.
No matter how you choose to get there, we can promise that you won’t be sorry you’ve visited Grosse Savanne. The sporting options are distinctive and varied, the food is exceptional, and we love the people and culture of South Louisiana.
