Death Row Meals of the Megabass Pro Staff

One of my early writing mentors taught me that fishing fans “care as much about Kevin VanDam’s favorite hamburger joints as they do about his favorite lures.” I’ve taken that to heart, and I remain convinced that even though ours is a participatory sport, the ability to grow the professional side of it depends on developing stars through their personalities. Accordingly, I often ask the pros some questions that are only tangentially related to their jobs. Sometimes it produces little, but occasionally it opens up a line of questioning or helps me develop a story idea. At the very least, it tends to lighten the mood.

Accordingly, when I got together with some of the Megabass team in October, I asked their pros about their “Death Row Meals” – what they’d eat if they only had one meal left. Their answers are in the video below. What they all have in common is that these anglers, all of whom spend most of their career thousands of miles from where they live, all gravitate to a taste of home.
