Ice Cream of the Week – The Sweet Taste of the Long Rod

Gifford's Fly Fishing Fudge Ice Cream

Summer is ending, but in my opinion it’s never too late for a bit of ice cream. It’s not the ideal boat snack, as it tends to melt and get all over everything, but it’s a great way to celebrate a great day on the water once you get off the boat. You can even enjoy a banana split in the Amazon thanks to Billy Chapman Jr. of Angler Inn.

I’ve visited Maine multiple times, but I’ve only fished there for largemouth and smallmouth bass with conventional gear. Next time we’ll have to chase some native trout with fly rods and then cap off the day with Gifford’s Fly Fishing Fudge. It’s vanilla ice cream with M&Ms, chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate chunks and heavy ribbons of fudge.

If that doesn’t get you salivating, consider one of the following to satisfy your fishy sweet tooth:

Ben & Jerry's Phish Food Ice Cream

One Japanese native that has recently moved into our town but which we’ve yet to try is Taiyaki – sort of a hollow waffle shaped like a fish. Historically they were filled with red bean paste, but the new craze is filling them with ice cream.
