Messed Up Travel Link Dump to End 2022
Our travel in 2022 hasn’t been entirely effortless or free of complications, but overall we’ve been pretty lucky – with few airport/airline hassles, decent weather and generally good fishing. That’s something to be thankful for, because oftentimes trips are marred by things outside of your control.
Here are a handful of links that will remind you that your travel life is surprisingly boring. They may also help you avoid trouble in the future:
Fat Bear Week was marred with voting irregularities and cheating — Brooks Falls at Katmai National Park is one of our favorite places we’ve fished – if you haven’t already put it on your bucket list, please do so now. I can honestly tell you that when the first bear saunters into your fishing hole it doesn’t matter whether he weighs 200 pounds or five times that, it’s jarring, but eventually becomes second nature.
TSA to BWI passengers: Please leave your meat cleavers at home — If you need to be reminded that meat cleavers are prohibited in your carry-on, maybe you’re not smart enough to fly.
Trail of slime leads German customs to bags of giant snails — ”In total, officials found six bags containing 93 giant snails, 28 kilograms (62 pounds) of fish and smoked meat, and a suitcase full of rotting meat.” I think I’d take my chances with a meat cleaver instead.
King Charles III's Odd Travel Habits Will Leave You Amused — After reading this, I’m inclined to start taking my own toilet seat and velvet toilet paper wherever I go, but I’ll stop short of demanding that my shoelaces be ironed.
Chevy Cavalier Ice Shanty Is The Mobile Fishing Shack Of Your Dreams — This is a brilliant labor-saving device and possibly the best available use of any mid-90s Cavalier.
Top 10 Weird Fines Travelers Keep Getting Surprised By — The important takeaway here: In Amsterdam you can window shop for hookers or munch on space brownies, but don’t chug a Heineken in the street. P.S., don’t hike naked in Switzerland, or grab your significant other’s ass in Dubai.
We can’t promise that 2023 will be any less interesting, challenging or controversial, so try to keep your excitement to big fish catches.
