No region is more closely associated with a single crankbait than the Ozarks and the Storm Wiggle Wart. Whether you believe that the OG Wart makes a difference over its newer counterparts – and even if you have a boatload of the originals – it’s not a cure-all. You can’t just fling it out and get bit on every cast. You have to have the right color, the right tackle, and of course be in the right place under the right conditions.
Table Rock transplant turned guide Chad Morgenthaler has developed a system for cranking the Wart in cold weather, not just on the Rock, but also on other prolific fisheries throughout the region. In fact, it’s a good strategy to employ anyplace bass are feeding on crawfish around rock that time of year. The Wart – old-school or otherwise – isn’t always his primary too, either.
