A Dozen Great Gifts for Traveling Anglers 2024

Great fishing travel gifts for 2024

I still believe that in many cases the best gift you can give a loved one or acquaintance is an experience – things eventually become obsolete, but memories of great days on the water are forever. Accordingly, if you’re thinking of gifting someone a fishing trip, reach out to us and let’s discuss your options. Of course, most trips require some sort of gear, clothing or other tangible items, so there are plenty of great possibilities there, too. Here are some of the ones that we either own or would like to receive ourselves:

Free Fly Apparel men's lightweight camo bamboo hoodie

Since getting a few of these last year, they’ve become my go-to, first-out-of-the-dresser option. They stay cool in hot weather and you can layer ‘em up when it’s colder. Lots of colors, super-comfortable, and they don’t take on an unshakeable stank like some others.

Megabass Valkyrie World Expedition Travel Rods

I had so much fun and success using the 8’ casting rod for yellowfin tuna in Panama that I forgot it was a multi-piece stick. Now there’s no reason to fear using travel rods, because these have JDM quality and one-piece actions.

Vertx 50L waterproof duffel bag backpack convertible

I’ve been hauling this combo duffel/backpack around the country this year, throwing it into cargo holds, boats and the beds of dirty pickup trucks and it’s virtually bulletproof. It holds a ton of gear, but if you’re nice to the flight attendant you can use it as your carry-on.

Plano Atlas Tackle Backpack

If you prefer a backpack with multiple compartments specifically for tackle over a single huge one, this one should be your carry-on and boat bag.

Bajio Nippers Readers blue mirror tortoise shell sunglasses

As I’ve gotten older and my vision has deteriorated, these have been a lifesaver when I need to tie complex knots or put line through the guides on a bunch of rods.

Shimano Stella Spinning Reels

A Stella 14000 was my personal luxury indulgence for this year, the most I’ve ever paid for a reel, and I’m excited to test it out when we return to Panama in January. A smaller model produced my PB smallmouth a few years ago.

Marshwear Escape Travel Pants

Marshwear’s Long Haul pants have become my go-to for chores around the house and situations where I need complete toughness, but I’m excited to test out the lighter Escape pants over some upcoming warm-weather trips. Their fit and features have been flawless.

Flambeau Bazuka Pro Telescoping Rod Tube

Super-durable with a one-piece hinged door.

Plano Adjustable Telescoping Adjustable Rod Tube for Airline travel

If you prefer wheels on the bottom, choose this one over the Flambeau. We have them both.

AFTCO Solago Sun Gloves

Show them you care, prevent skin cancer and preserve their potential as a hand model with these lightweight gloves that don’t impede an ability to fish.

Costa Del Mar King Tide Polarized Sunglasses Blue Lenses Black Frames

These have become one of my most frequent choices out of a basket full of sunglasses at home – comfortable and block out sun in a wide variety of fishing circumstances.

Various sizes of Yeti Rambler water bottles

We didn’t really drink water (except from a hose) when I was a kid, but now we know hydration is critical. A Yeti Rambler will keep it cold (or hot) seemingly forever and can handle the dents and dings that result from rugged travel.
