New Multi-Application Gear for Traveling Anglers at Tackle Warehouse

I buy plenty of fishing gear that is tailored to specific applications – like lures that I’m convinced will excel at Lake El Salto or clothing that’ll serve me well in Alaska – but I’m especially happy when I find items that’ll do double- or even triple-duty. Fortunately, manufacturers keep coming up with such stuff and Tackle Warehouse keeps adding them to inventory. Here are four that I plan to add to the rotation in 2025.

Shimano Tranx 300B Baitcasting Reel

I’ve beaten the crap out of my original Tranx 300 – for bass in Mexico, peacocks in Brazil and tuna in Panama – and it never misses a beat. That’s why I jumped on the new version as soon as it was available. They claim it’s better than earlier models. Not sure how that’s possible, but I’ll be beyond thrilled if it is.

Daiwa Sol MQ LT Spinning Reel

These new spinning reels are ridiculously lightweight, so you can use them for any freshwater application you want, but they’re also specifically designed to deal with the nastiest saltwater elements thanks to its “Magsealed” design. I’ve grown to like the oversized handles and knobs, too, no matter what I’m targeting.

Bubba Smart Fish Scale Lite

While my Brecknell scale has been exceptional, and we added a Rapala model last year, the Bubba version has tons of adherents, especially among serious tournament bass anglers. Now they’ve added a less expensive and Bluetooth-capable model that’ll accurately weigh fish up to 60 pounds.

Evolution Fishing Big Bait roll bag storage

I’ve been coveting the roll-up bags that the saltwater popping guys use, but haven’t been able to pull the trigger on one yet, partially because of price. This one is remarkably reasonable, and it’ll do double-duty with my glide baits in the Bass Cat.
