Hanna Barbera Goes Fishing
I’m starting to lose touch with popular culture. I cannot tell you the difference between Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. The only Taylor Swift song I can recall is the one about the awful breakup and they’re never, ever, ever getting back together. I’ve never seen “Succession” or “Yellowstone” or “Billions.”
I can, however, identify many if not most of the Hanna-Barbera animation characters (how cool would it have been if my wife Hanna’s middle name was “Barbara”?) from standouts like Tom and Jerry to anyone that Gary Dell’Abate would revere.
Thus, I was pleased to see that Florida’s Seven Mile Fly Shop incorporated the iconic but possibly objectionable Hong Kong Phooey into one of their fishing shirts. Bonus points if you know that he was voiced by the legendary Scatman Crothers. Coicindentally, Mr. Crothers played the role of “The Fisherman” in the 1975 Warren Beatty/Jack Nicholson vehicle “The Fortune.”
