Topwater Yellowfin Tuna Reading List

Carl Vicars with a Yellowfin tuna caught in Gulf of Chiriqui Panama

As we departed from our first fishing trip to Panama, I told Hanna that if I could fish for tuna 30 days a year I’d sell my bass boat the next day. I was only half-joking, because while bass fishing is a huge part of my life, popping for those big foaming yellowfins was pretty close to orgasmic.

We’ve been back twice, with trips scheduled for next month as well as January of 2025, and when I’m not reliving our three trips, planning ahead to the next one, or watching YouTube videos about the experience, I’m reading up on it. Most of the saltwater magazines have had a piece or three about the topic in recent years, so if you want to know what all of our fuss is about, read one or more of the following:

Of course, if you have more questions or want to book a trip to Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge for tuna and/or other species, email us any time. We’ll be happy to fill you in.
