Swimming in Sailfish

sailfish swimwear for men

After three trips to Casa Vieja Lodge, and with a fourth on the short-term agenda, we’ve taken a crash course in falling in love with sailfish. They’re not only one of the most beautiful fish we’ve ever caught, but undoubtedly the most acrobatic – I don’t think we’ve ever hooked one that didn’t jump at least several times. To experience the spectacle at its finest, you clearly should make a trip to Guatemala, and for that trip it wouldn’t hurt to look like your quarry.

We’ve already documented some of the many shirts, shorts, neckties and even socks that fully represent Istiophorus platypterus, but if you’re going to get wet you might as well have boardshorts or swimming trunks that achieve that same goal. We’ve seen videos of anglers getting in the water for shots with their soon-to-be-released sailfish, but we’re more comfortable in and around the pool at the lodge, with appetizers and cocktails, recounting the raises, bites and releases of that day. Here are some options to investigate:

I don’t guarantee that any of them will propel you to the rocket speeds that these freakish billfish achieve in the water, but some of them will make even a dad bod look better than your plain old swim trunks or your nut-hugging Speedo.
