Tattoo Tuesday Tasty Tuna

Yellowfin tuna at Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge Gulf of Chiriqui

Even though yellowfin tuna are one of the most popular (and tastiest) saltwater sportfish, they’re one that we’ve yet to chase or catch incidentally. We didn’t target them in Guatemala, and our plans to take a tuna charter out of Venice never came to fruition. That’s why we’re so excited about our upcoming trip to Panama in April, when we not only expect to break our “dry spell” but we also hope to do it on topwater.

They’re not only reportedly brutally strong, but they’re also one of the prettiest fish around, which makes them prime for tattoos. Here are some of the coolest ones I’ve found.

One of my favorites comes from The Dolorosa Tattoo Company in California.

And this one from Von Striga Tattoo in Galveston is also a winner.

While the yellowfin’s colors are part of what make them memorable, this black and white scene from Faces in the Dark Tattoo is part of what makes it memorable.

And this amazing bait ball scene by Deano Cook of Sink or Swim Studio and Gallery in Atlanta has me reaching for my topwaters.

In this scene from Red Baron Ink in NYC, the tuna takes a back seat to a mahi, but it’s still a bad ass scene.

Lone Kitten Tattoo in the decidedly non-coastal town of St. George, Utah, produced this solid version.

Here’s one chasing a lure, from Lucky Devil Tattoo Parlor in Florida.

But I can’t find one crashing on a popper. Hanna may need to fix that when we get back from Panama!
