Bass Boat Saver Keeps Your Fiberglass in Peak Condition

I’m pretty sure that I bought my first bottle of Bass Boat Saver at New Hampshire’s late, great Northern Bass Supply in 1998, and six boats later it’s still my preferred product. It removes grime and bugs and all sorts of debris with a minimum of elbow grease, smells good, and it’s affordable. I sell a boat every four years or so, and besides the fact that I don’t drive them hard or put a lot of hours on them, the reason they usually look close to new is because I wipe off the scum after just about every trip.

Last year I started using their Black Label Ceramic Shield for the first time, but I wasn’t sure how or why to use that over the original, so I reached out to Bass Boat Saver’s Justin Myers to get a few answers:

HPFC: What is the difference between Black Label Ceramic Speedshield and the original Bass Boat Saver?

Myers: The easiest way to differentiate the two products is to examine the surface they are being applied to. BBS Original was specifically designed with a high level of surfactants to help lift and remove sediment, and deposits that are adhered to the surface. It excels in tackling water spots, scum lines, discoloring, brake dust, road grime, stains, spills, ect. With continued use of Bass Boat Saver, your boat, motor, trailer, and all accessories will retain a deep, rich color and will be protected from the elements. Bass Boat Saver is completely biodegradable and will not damage our fisheries.

This can be looked at as a one-two punch, we recommend using BBS Original at the ramp and for regular cleanings. Once your boat’s surfaces are clean and ready, we use the Ceramic Speedshield to fill in any surface imperfections and provide an additional layer of protection that really locks in the shine and detail. Ceramic Speedshield is a polymer-based ceramic coating that bonds to the surface and delivers a mirror like finish. Ceramic Speedshield loves to be machine polished and if you have access to a buffer, we highly recommend machine polishing your boat for the ultimate shine.

Both products are designed to work with all boats including fiberglass, aluminum, and wrapped boats.

HPFC: Can/should they be used on different parts of the boat?

Myers: I recommend using both products on every surface of your boat excluding your sonar screens which is why we formulated Sonar Screen Cleaner. Common applications for BBS Original include gel coat, metal, seats, trailer, consoles, wheels, carpet, motor, tires, spills, stains, live wells, poles. Ceramic Speedshield is perfect for gel, aluminum, wraps, seats, trailer, consoles, motor, poles, wheels, tires, plastic and more.

HPFC: Should they be applied differently?

Myers: I recommend applying both with a clean microfiber rag, and you can machine polish the Ceramic Speedshield if you want a mirror like finish.

HPFC: Does it matter if my gelcoat is perfect or oxidized?

Myers: Perfect can be subjective, I personally was disappointed in my Phoenix from the factory and compound waxed the whole boat before it even hit the water. Oxidation is a beast and can be hard to remove depending on the environment & time the boat was exposed to it. I grew up in the south and 95% of the damage to the boats in my area was caused by sun exposure and neglect. BBS Original is always my starting point for any used boat, but it shouldn’t be confused with products that are designed for restoration work. With its integrated UV protection and waxes, BBS Original can maintain and elevate the look of any boat. Ceramic Speedshield was specifically designed to work in conjunction with BBS Original and will take your boat to the next level.

HPFC: What is the biggest mistake or mistakes people make when applying Bass Boat Saver?

Myers: Not taking the time at the ramp or as soon as they get home to use Bass Boat Saver products.

HPFC: How long does an application last?

Myers: I recommend using BBS Original after every outing for general maintenance and protection, and Ceramic Speedshield every four trips or as often as you like to fully detail your boat (I personally do this monthly, but it really comes down to boat usage). Using the two products together will lower the amount of BBS Original you use for general cleanings.

HPFC: Does it ever go bad?

Myers: We have torture tested the product and have seen no deterioration of the product or its performance. Regular heat cycles, especially in summer, had no effect on either product.

HPFC: Are there any discount codes?

Myers: Absolutely. Ten percent off for all HPFC readers by clicking here or using the discount code: ElitePETE&HANNAROBBINS
